Medical Education Department is the administrative department in the government of Uttar Pradesh for the regulation of all medical and paramedical education in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The department is also the nodal department for the processing of applications/granting of permissions received under Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994.

Work of Organization within the Department

The work of the department is organized into four sections– dealing with Allopathic medicine.

All matters pertaining to the state owned government medical colleges are dealt with by Medical Education Section-1 and section-3.

All matters pertaining to autonomous institutions offering medical education (Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, KGMU, UPUMS Saifai, CBMR and RMLIMS, SSPHPGTI Noida, GIMS Greater Noida), organ transplantation, budget, legislative work, general coordination etc are dealt with by Medical Education Section 2.

All matters pertaining to private medical colleges, Neet (UG and PG), fee regulation and establishment of AIIMS are dealt with by section-4.

The Directorate General of Medical Education provides the necessary technical support for work dealt with in these sections.

For matters pertaining to the regulation of various types paramedical education, and the State Medical, Dental and Nurses and Midwives Council, the Uttar Pradesh State Medical Faculty and Allied Councils (UPSMFAC) works through Medical Education Section 4.

Applications/permissions under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994 are received by the DGME and processed through Medical Education Section-2.
